RAKUGAKI
ラクガキ
Group show || Gallery Beat Bop - Bogotá (CO)
In RAKUGAKI, six internationally active artists linked to Japan — Jikken Rat (Japan), Sante Visioni (Italy), Alex Face (Thailand), Muebon (Thailand), Jeremy Strength (USA), and Kana Kitty (Japan) — come together to celebrate the universal human desire for expression. The term ラクガキ (rakugaki), meaning “scribble” or“graffiti,” evokes the spontaneous and uninhibited act of creation that often marks the beginning of an artist’ s journey. The exhibition explores the origins of artistic impulse — from childhood doodles and street markings to mature visual languages that continue to carry the same raw energy and urgency of self-expression. Each artist approaches this theme through their own cultural and aesthetic lens, uniting in a shared reflection on how our earliest creative gestures shape who we become. Presented by Beatbop Gallery (Bogotá) in collaboration with Gallery Ether (Tokyo), RAKUGAKI bridges Japan, Italy, Thailand, and the United States in a dialogue about artistic evolution, memory, and the instinct to create. It is both a reunion and a rediscovery — a return to the moment when art was first a game, a rebellion, and a form of connection. The opening night, held during Bogotá’ s Noche San Felipe Festival, features a live ritual titled Fuego, performed by Fuego Society — a Tokyo-based art collective. Through this act, RAKUGAKI transforms into more than an exhibition: it becomes an invitation to reignite the fire of creation itself.
